ALISON Hammond has revealed she’s ‘struggling’ after her ‘breakdown’ on This Morning.
Last week, Alison, 51, sparked concern among This Morning viewers when she rushed off screen mid-show, clutching her chest.
The star later shared a snap from her hospital bed where she told fans she was getting checked over, before later revealing she had been given the all-clear, “which would mean I had a massive panic attack on live TV.”
But despite getting the a clean bill of health from docs, Alison didn’t attend the Attitude Awards on Wednesday night, where she had won The Honorary Gay Award.
Speaking on her behalf, Kate Lawler – who was on the same series of Big Brother as Alison before they both found further TV fame – said: “I’ve spoken to Alison since and it was one of the scariest things she has gone through.
“She didn’t think she was having a panic attack, she thought she was having a f****** heart attack.”
She then read out a message from Alison, who said: “I’ve always tried to bring joy, laughter and positivity to people.
“So suddenly being a person struggling, rather than making everyone else laugh, is a very vulnerable place to be.
“I’m learning that vulnerability isn’t a weakness, and that’s something this community has taught me throughout with love.”
She continued: “Some of you may have seen I’ve recently had a very public episode live on television.
“And let’s be honest, if you’re going to have a breakdown you might as well have it on ITV with loads of people watching.”
Alison then paid tribute to her This Morning co-star Dermot O’Leary, adding: “Dermot O’Leary handled it beautifully …..I think Dermot deserves his own gay award because he is the gayest straight man on the planet.
“He is basically an honorary gay man already.”
