Meghan Markle is reportedly hoping to secure an invitation to one of London’s major cultural events as she and Prince Harry attempt to re-establish themselves in British society following their return to the UK.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved back to Britain with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet late last month and are believed to be settling in the Cotswolds.

Now, sources claim the couple are looking for opportunities to rebuild connections in both royal and wider British circles — with one particular event said to be firmly on Meghan’s radar.

Meghan reportedly hopes for Phantom anniversary invitation

According to sources cited by columnist Alison Boshoff, Meghan is hoping to attend the 40th-anniversary celebrations for The Phantom of the Opera in London on October 9.

An invitation could carry significance beyond simply attending a major West End celebration, with Boshoff suggesting it would send “a bit of a message” about Meghan’s renewed place within British society.

The connection is particularly notable because the musical’s creator, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, has strong ties to King Charles III.

Lloyd Webber composed “Make a Joyful Noise” for the King’s Coronation and was later appointed a Knight Companion of the Order of the Garter.

One source offered a particularly harsh assessment of Harry and Meghan’s current position, claiming: “Look, they expect to be let back in. Harry expects they [the Royal Family] need him.”

The source went on to allege that the Sussexes have “nothing else going for them” and have “burned every bridge in America.”

Those comments remain the source’s characterization rather than an official statement from Harry or Meghan.

Any high-profile appearance would come amid continued scrutiny over exactly what role Harry and Meghan intend to play following their return.

King Charles recently issued a letter clarifying that the Sussexes remain non-working members of the Royal Family. According to the letter, they will not use their “His and Her Royal Highness” styles and will continue as private citizens.

Harry and Meghan stepped back from senior royal duties in 2020, seeking greater independence and eventually establishing a new life in the United States.

Since then, they have continued working with charities and organisations and have undertaken overseas visits that have sometimes been compared to traditional royal tours.

Their return to Britain has therefore reignited debate over how they will balance their royal connections with their status outside the working monarchy.

One unnamed source claimed Prince William is unhappy with the possibility that Harry could appear to resume some of the public-facing functions associated with working royalty despite no longer holding that role.

“Harry remains the King’s son, and nobody can take that away from him, but being a member of the family and representing the monarchy are two very different things,” the source said.

The same source claimed William considers the arrangement reached when the Sussexes stepped away from royal duties to have been clear: independence came with giving up the ability to operate as working royals.
