Camron Jones Officially Cast as Tupac Shakur in Upcoming Universal Biopic ‘Snoop’
Actor Camron Jones has officially secured one of hip-hop’s most iconic roles, signing on to portray the legendary Tupac Shakur in Universal Pictures’ upcoming biographical drama Snoop. Best known for his breakout lead role in Amazon Prime’s thriller series Panic, the rising star joins a high-profile ensemble chronicling the defining moments of Snoop Dogg’s life and career. The highly anticipated biopic is scheduled to make its global theatrical debut on August 6, 2027.
Jones brings exceptional dramatic pedigree and formal classical training to the challenging portrayal of the late rap icon. A graduate of the University of Southern California with a BFA in acting, he also completed intensive Shakespearean studies at the British American Drama Academy in Oxford. His extensive television résumé includes memorable performances on acclaimed series such as Starz’s P-Valley, Grown-ish, The Purge, and Shameless.
A Star-Studded Cast Assembles to Depict West Coast Rap Royalty
The upcoming feature has gathered an impressive roster of young Hollywood talent to depict West Coast hip-hop pioneers during the genre’s golden era. Outer Banks breakout star Jonathan Daviss will take on the lead role of Snoop Dogg, while Myles Bullock from BMF will portray legendary superproducer Dr. Dre. Acclaimed actress Lauren London, who famously starred in classic Snoop Dogg music videos, is set to portray the rapper’s beloved late mother, Beverly Tate.
The production boasts substantial creative leadership, with veteran filmmaker Craig Brewer directing the project from a rich biographical screenplay. Renowned Hollywood titan Brian Grazer is producing the film through Imagine Entertainment, having previously set the standard for rap biopics with the Oscar-winning classic 8 Mile. Snoop Dogg himself is actively producing the project alongside Sara Ramaker through Death Row Pictures to guarantee an authentic retelling of his extraordinary legacy.
