Police in Happy Valley-Goose Bay are investigating after a child found a stun gun near a playground on Tuesday and shocked themselves.
The child suffered minor injuries, said the RCMP.
The stun gun was shaped like a pair of brass knuckles. It was across from the Ford Street playground along Campbell Street, police say.
A stun gun could cause “significant danger,” said Insp. Danny Williams, with Labrador District RCMP.
It’s “very concerning,” he said.
A family member brought the weapon to police, who reviewed it for evidence but didn’t find anything, Williams said. Police have discarded the stun gun.
Police patrolled the area, Williams said, but didn’t locate any other weapons.

Williams said he doesn’t know how it got there, but noted it’s become easier for people to illegally buy weapons like this online.
But finding a stun gun near the playground isn’t a common occurrence, he said.
“This is the first I’ve ever heard of something like this,” said Williams.
“Hopefully its not something that we ever see again.”
‘Even adults may get curious’
Williams said he’s never seen a stun gun shaped like brass knuckles. It would be understandable for a child to pick it up, not knowing what it was, he said.
“Even adults may get curious and pick something up,” said Williams. He noted parents should remind their children to be careful.
The weapon was rechargeable, police say, and made of plastic and metal.
The RCMP is asking anyone with information to come forward.
