13-Year-Old Ventriloquist Steals the Show With His Hilariously “Naughty” Sidekick

Britain’s Got Talent has welcomed plenty of talented young performers over the years, but 13-year-old Jamie Leahey arrived with something a little different: a hilarious chicken named Chuck.

Jamie may have been the one standing on stage, but his cheeky ventriloquist dummy quickly became the star of the show. Together, the unlikely duo delivered a performance packed with jokes, quick-fire banter and even a musical number that had the judges and audience on their feet.

A Self-Taught Talent With Big Dreams

At just 13 years old, Jamie was already an accomplished self-taught ventriloquist.

He began developing his unusual talent during the lockdowns after his grandmother bought him a monkey puppet. By watching videos and practicing, Jamie spent two years honing his skills and learning how to bring his characters to life without moving his lips.

His dream was a big one: to perform in places such as Las Vegas or Hollywood and one day see his name in lights.

That dream took an important step forward when Jamie walked onto the Britain’s Got Talent stage with Chuck by his side.

Chuck Wastes No Time Making the Judges Laugh

The pair opened their audition with a joke about laughter.

“It’s all about having a laugh,” Jamie said. “Where would you be without a laugh, eh Chuck?”

Chuck was ready with a quick response.

“Sat in David’s seat,” he replied, taking a playful jab at judge David Walliams.

The joke immediately earned laughs from the audience and even drew a few enthusiastic claps from Simon Cowell.

It was clear from the beginning that Chuck had plenty of attitude — and Jamie had the talent to make his feathered sidekick feel like a character with a personality all his own.

A “Comedian-Hen” Takes Centre Stage

Ventriloquism is the art of creating the illusion that a voice is coming from somewhere other than the performer. Jamie used his skills to make it seem as though Chuck was doing all the talking, and the audience quickly became captivated by the banter between the pair.

Their jokes kept coming throughout the audition.

At one point, Jamie told Chuck, “I suppose you find that funny.”

“Yeah,” Chuck replied. “I’m a Comedian-Hen.”

The chicken-themed punchline was just one of the many jokes that had the audience laughing.

But Jamie and Chuck had another surprise in store.

The Talented Duo Finish With a Song

To end their performance, Jamie and his mouthy chicken companion launched into a rendition of “Me and My Shadow,” made famous by the Rat Pack.

Performing ventriloquism is impressive enough, but Jamie took the challenge even further by incorporating singing into the act.

The result was a polished and entertaining performance that earned a standing ovation from all four judges as well as the audience.

The Judges Praise Jamie’s Remarkable Talent

David Walliams was among the first judges to share his reaction.

“You have an incredible talent, not just for ventriloquism but to entertain people,” he told Jamie. “That was absolutely wonderful.”

Alesha Dixon was equally impressed, especially considering Jamie’s age.

“I absolutely love that,” she said. “It was so slick, all the while thinking, I can’t believe you are 13 years old. It was very, very funny and Chuck is very, very naughty and I love Chuck’s sense of humor.”

Chuck even managed to squeeze in a few more laughs when Amanda Holden spoke with him after the performance.

In the end, Jamie and his hilarious sidekick received an enthusiastic “yes” from all four judges. As Jamie left the stage, Simon Cowell also praised the young performer, saying that he was very likable.

For a teenager who had spent just two years teaching himself the art of ventriloquism, Jamie’s audition was an extraordinary moment.

With his impressive technical skills, natural sense of humor and one very naughty chicken by his side, Jamie Leahey proved that great talent can come in unexpected forms.
