“God Bless America” is one patriotic tune that will forever hold a place in our hearts. And this U.S. marine corps sergeant’s rendition is one for the history books.

This monumental melody was first written as a prayer by noted songwriter Irving Berlin in 1918 during World War I. It wasn’t until 1938 that Berlin decided to revive the sentimental verses as “a peace song.”

The first recording of Berlin’s resulting masterpiece comes from an Armistice Day broadcast on The Kate Smith Show, where the “First Lady of Radio” herself stunned listeners with the sentimental lyrics. And from them on the tune was a game-day custom.

This rendition, however, has to be the most striking thing we’ve ever heard. As retired sergeant Dan Clark’s rich tone carries throughout the World Series Stadium, we’ve got goosebumps.
