After a slew of conflicting reports, Prince Harry’s brief trip to the UK was topped off with a long-awaited reunion. Last week, The Telegraph confirmed that Harry reunited with his father, King Charles III, alongside his wife, Meghan Markle, their son, Prince Archie, 7, and their daughter, Princess Lilibet, 5.

Now, insiders are looking into what happened for the family reunion to take place.

According to a source close to the Sussexes for Vanity Fair, the reunion was something the whole Sussex clan was looking forward to. “Archie and Lili were very excited about seeing their grandfather,” the source said, adding that “there have been calls from a rather frantic Harry to his father’s aides, trying to make this happen.”

The family reunion ultimately took place on Friday afternoon on July 10, in a private meeting at Highgrove House, the monarch’s private country residence in Gloucestershire. Charles’ wife, Queen Camilla, was also reportedly in attendance.

But it wasn’t just the Sussexes who were pleased with the meeting, which will not have images revealed to the public.

“[Charles] wanted the meeting but was adamant it must be kept private,” one source revealed. The source added that Camilla was also eager to see her step-grandchildren and that Charles had consistently wanted to meet his grandchildren in the past. They had last seen each other in 2022.

As a reminder, Markle and Harry left their roles as senior working royals in early 2020. They welcomed Archie in May 2019, and Lilibet in June 2021 in their new life in Montecito, California.

Harry is in the UK for a series of charity events, including a one-year countdown event to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. Meghan and the children, on the other hand, are visiting in a private capacity after flying in from their vacation in Europe. The Sussexes are also set to travel to Althorp, Princess Diana’s ancestral home, after being invited to stay by his uncle, Charles Spencer.

Meghan and the children initially backed out of plans to visit the UK amid security concerns. Harry came alone, despite controversy surrounding where he would stay. Ahead of his arrival, it was reported that Buckingham Palace rescinded an offer for Harry to stay there, claiming he missed a deadline to accept the invitation.

Regardless of the drama that ensued from the offer, it seems Harry and his father are on better terms than they’ve been in many years.
